Comprehensive Security Studies

Comprehensive Security Studies (CSS) journal encourages innovative, critical and multidisciplinary perspectives that contribute to evolving discourse on comprehensive security. It is an international peer reviewed academic journal with a global coverage focusing on defence, military conflict, security issues of a state and its citizens; discussing threats to political, socio-cultural, environmental, human rights, food, livelihood, and gender issues. It covers new dimensions of security challenges emerging from diaspora connections, international migrations, border fluidity, multiple citizenship regimes and other transnational processes that have emerged due to globalisation. Securities of the world, states, communities, and individuals are being challenged by these dynamics and non -state actors. Security is no longer to  be  discussed by focusing exclusively, or even predominantly, on military affairs, foreign policy considerations, and economic concerns, particularly when radical  sub-state actors challenge democratic and pluralist societies. The defensive response to such threats is often dramatically impaired when these actors are embedded within civilian populations; in such cases, issues of legitimacy take centre stage, often at the expense of more traditional security considerations. ‘Comprehensive Security’ in this context, does not merely imply the absence of war or conflict, but rather it embodies a broader notion of sustainable and inclusive peace.

All manuscripts will be double-blind peer reviewed by a minimum of two reviewers and subject to similarity and AI checks before they are accepted for publication in the journal.

The journal is published three times a year in English. It welcomes submissions for Special Issues by the guest editor. It regularly publishes:

• Original research articles (6,000–8,000 words)
• Review articles (6,000–8,000 words)
• Book reviews (1,000–2,000 words)
